- Adventure Shop Specialist: As the first point of contact for our community, Adventure Shop Specialists are the face and the heart of IU Outdoor Adventures. By managing the flow of equipment for academic courses, non-academic programs, and private rentals, you ensure the lifeblood of our program—the gear—is organized, and ready for action. Beyond the gear, our Specialists oversee the bouldering gym, creating an inviting and supportive space for climbers of all levels. - Trip Leader: Our Trip Leaders facilitate inclusive environments where participants learn the technical skills of activities like backpacking, climbing, or paddling. Through your guidance and mentorship, you help others navigate challenges and connect deeply with one another and the natural world. Your commitment to sound judgment and participant preparedness empowers individuals as they push their personal boundaries. Join our team and lead the way to unforgettable adventures! Completion of SPH W305–Intro to Outdoor Leadership or equivalent certifications and experience is required.
- Course Instructor: Share your expertise and shape the next generation of outdoor leaders. Course Instructors lead academic sessions and technical excursions, but their impact extends far beyond the classroom. A central part of this role is mentoring and training our student staff, ensuring they possess the technical proficiency and leadership confidence to guide their own groups. Through hands-on instruction and intentional mentorship, you help cultivate a legacy of adventure and skill-building within the IU community. Certifications and experience leading specific outdoor activities is required.
Risk Management roles focus on maintaining a safe, prepared, and supportive environment for everyone in our facilities. These positions are ideal for individuals who stay calm under pressure, value responsibility, and are committed to the health and safety of our participants and staff.
- First Responder: Safety is a priority for us and our First Responders work to help prevent accidents. If someone is sick or injured, our team is there to provide care and comfort. We also provide support and documentation for other safety and security issues. If you are currently certified as an EMR, EMT, or Paramedic, are looking to work in a relaxed environment that contributes to the wellbeing of others, and are an empathetic and dependable person, then you may fit in with our team!
