Jill Behrman was an IU student and an employee of Recreational Sports. In May of 2000, Jill left for a solo bike ride and never came back. Three years later, it was discovered that she had been murdered. In October 2000, the JB5K was created to keep the memory of Jill alive and to bring awareness to issues of violence in our community. Proceeds from the Color the Campus Walk/Run benefit the Jill Behrman Emerging Leader Scholarship, personal safety workshops, and Campus Recreational Sports programs for IUB students.

Frequently Asked Questions
Nope! While most JB5K participants are students, we encourage anyone in the Bloomington community and surrounding areas to participate! IU students under the age of 18 may register themselves, while all other participants under 18 should have a parent/guardian register for them.
Packet pick up will take place in the SRSC lobby 11am-6pm on the Friday before the event. On event day, the registration area will open at 9:30am in the lobby of the SRSC. If you are on a team, check with your captain to see if they are picking up your materials for your group or if you need to pick them up yourself.
During packet pick up times you can park in the SRSC lot and show your packet number to exit the lot. On race day we suggest that you walk or carpool to the SRSC as parking at the venue will be restricted. IU Parking will not be ticketing during the event
The color powder consists of an eco-friendly cornstarch with food grade coloring and a light fragrance.
There will be five color zones along the race route where you will be showered with color. There will be a color-free lane at each color zone in case you want to opt out of that experience. At the post-race celebration there will be more powder that you can use to get extra colorful!
Wear your JB5K or white shirt to show off your color! Your clothes and shoes will be covered in powder, so don’t wear anything you really care about. You will receive sunglasses with registration to help keep the powder out of your eyes. Wearing a bandana will help keep the powder off your teeth and out of your hair.
After the event is over, shake off as much excess powder as possible. If you drove, be sure to bring a towel or trash bags to sit on in your car on the way home! The color powder comes off with soap and water, so make sure to take a shower at home.
The JB5K takes a participants on a tour of the most beautiful parts of the IU campus. The race route begins and ends at the SRSC, with a course length of 2.8 miles.
The only place that you will find your race time is on your watch. This fitness run/walk is just meant to be a fun day so there won’t be any race clocks at the event!
Photographers along the route will capture the event and we’ll post everything online. If you bring your phone, we recommend putting it in a plastic bag to prevent it from getting powder in it. There will be lots of photo opportunities along the race route and at the post-race party! Check out our social media below for event highlights and to share your pictures. #JB5K
