Frequently Asked Questions
- Members may check out equipment for free using their IU/RS ID.
- Day Pass users may check out day use locks and basketballs only. Visit the SRSC or Fieldhouse Member Services Desk to check out a day use basketball.
- Show your ID and the staff will scan the equipment out to you.
- When you return the equipment, make sure the staff scans your ID again.

Bill Garrett Fieldhouse (GF)
Max Occupancy = 168
- Dunking, grabbing, hanging on rims or nets, or hand in the “cylinder” is not permitted due to safety and maintenance concerns. Violators will be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
- Participants are not to turn on the lights or tamper with the panel boxes located on the south wall. Requests or problems should be referred to a Recreational Sports employee.
- Kicking/throwing of a basketball or other equipment towards the ceiling is not permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the facility immediately and will be billed for the damages.
- Verbal and/or physical abuse towards Recreational Sports employees or participants will result in immediate dismissal from the facility, with possible one-year suspension of all Recreational sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the university and legal charges filed.
- Abuse of property will not be tolerated. Violators may be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
- Gym bags and book bags must be secured in a rental or day-use locker.
- The north wall may be used as a tennis background for hitting tennis balls.
- Informal Sports Participants are not permitted in the Equipment Storage Rooms.
- If you would like the courts dust mopped, please see a Recreational Sports Employee at the Member Services Suite near the Fieldhouse Courts. Dust mops are also available for checkout with a valid Recreational Sports or IU ID.
- Basketball activity has priority over other activities (with the exception of regularly scheduled club sports practice times). If there are less than ten players, they must use half court and allow the other half court to be open for another activity.
- Informal volleyball, football, lacrosse, baseball, cricket, or soccer activity is not allowed due to the low ceiling.
- Only non-marking gym shows will be allowed on the courts.
- No food or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
- In the event of an injury or accident, contact a Recreational Sports employee.
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY
Neither Indiana University nor Campus Recreational Sports accepts any responsibility for ill health or injury sustained while participating in any of the programs. No medical or ambulance expense incurred by a participant will be paid by Campus Recreational Sports or by the University. Participation is on a voluntary basis. It is recommended that all participants undergo a prior physical examination and carry some form of health and injury insurance. If an injury does occur, it should be reported to the nearest Recreational Sports staff member. In the event that blood is involved in an injury, that person cannot continue to participate until the wound is properly cleaned and dressed; any clothing with blood should be removed.
COURTS

- Basketball Challenge Court Policy: Please be courteous when waiting for next game. The expectation is that the first 5 players waiting to play next game, have first right to play the winners of the current game. Make sure that you actually call “next game” to the other players waiting to play. Challenge court scoring is 1 point baskets, play to 15, win by 2.
- Court 6 is the Women’s Priority Court: During all Informal Sport hours. Four women are needed to play a half-court game and eight for a full-court game. If a game is in progress, the teams will be allowed 5 minutes to finish their game. During Intramural sports season, eight people are needed for a full-court game, half-court policy is not in effect.
- Half-Court Rights: Players may continue to use a basket until 8 or more want to play a full-court game.
- Gym bags and book bags must be secured in a rental or day use locker. Near courts 1 and 10 there are plastic bins to place clothing and equipment. Day lockers are located around the court spaces. Recreational Sports is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal items.
- Please keep the curtains drawn as a safety precaution to keep balls and participants from interfering with participants on the indoor track.
- Basketball and volleyball participants must yield to joggers/ walkers when crossing the track.
- Only non-marking gym shoes will be allowed unless you are a spectator.
- Dust mops are available at the Member Services suite to assist in the cleaning of debris from the floor. Please return them to the Member Services Suite when finished.
TRACK
- The track direction changes daily. Counter-clockwise on the even days of the month and clockwise on the odd days of the month. All joggers are to follow the same direction. One lap equals 857 feet. One mile equals 6 laps plus 138 feet. The speed lane assignments are as follows: Inside - Running | Middle - Jogging | Outside – Walking
- The courtesy rule of passing is recommended. A jogger should say, “Passing on your left or right,” and look behind to make sure no other runners are coming before making a pass.
- Participants using the track should be alert for balls and players crossing the track.
- Strollers are not permitted on the track.
GENERAL
- Do not spit on the floor or in the garbage cans. A receptacle is available next to the water fountains.
- In the event of an injury or accident seek assistance from an onsite Recreational Sports employee.

- No diving is permitted. All swimmers will enter the pool from the ends only.
- Running, rough play, intoxication, and profanity are prohibited.
- Swimsuits are required. No cut-offs, gym shorts or other attire is allowed. Changing clothes on deck is prohibited.
- No street shoes are permitted on the deck.
- All diaper aged children shall use plastic pants with tight fitting elastic at the legs and waist, or swim diapers. Do not change diapers at poolside.
- Children/dependents under 18 must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card or membership, Daily/Weekly Pass, or valid Conference Bureau Name Badge.
- Participants must present a valid IU Bloomington student/ faculty/staff ID, RS membership card, daily/weekly pass, or IU Conference Bureau ID to the lifeguard upon entering the pool area.
- Participants may not enter the pool until a Recreational Sports Lifeguard is on duty and instructions of the lifeguard must be obeyed at all times.
- Lifeguards will make final decisions concerning the safety of all participants in the pool area.
- If the lifeguards blow their whistles, stop what you are doing and follow their instructions.
- In the event of an injury, an accident, or you are not feeling well, please notify a Lifeguard immediately.
- Only US Coast Guard approved life jackets will be allowed and swimming aids are only allowed in the shallow area of the lap swimming pool. No other type of flotation device will be allowed.
- Kickboards, pull buoys and Aqua Joggers are training aids and may not be used as flotation devices.
- Lane lines should be used only as safety lines in case of an emergency.
- No glass containers, food or drink (except water in plastic bottles) are permitted in the pool area.
- Only towels, deck footwear, and items necessary for swimming are allowed on deck. All other personal belongings must be stored in a locker. During activity, please keep unused equipment near poolside and out of the way of participants on the deck.
- Goggles, kickboards, pull buoys, fins and stroke paddles are allowed. Please return all Recreational Sports equipment to the storage bin.
- All equipment in the equipment storage container is the property of Indiana University Division of Recreational Sports and should only be used in the pool area.
- Lap Swimming will follow a circular pattern, swimming on the right-hand side of the lane at all times except to pass. Please try to pass another swimmer at the wall.

ROYER POOL POLICIES:

ROYER DIVING WELL POLICIES
- The Diving Well can be used for lap swimming. Diving has priority but swimming may take place going in the northsouth direction provided it is not a safety hazard.
- Participants in the Diving Well must be able to swim the width of the pool.
- The inside 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards may be used. The 5-meter platform and outside diving boards are closed during Informal Sports hours.
- Only one bounce per dive is allowed on the springboards. There are no practice bounces allowed. No gymnastic activity (i.e. cartwheel or head and hand stands).
- Diving board and platform participants must leave the board/platform facing the water. Backward and inward dives are not permitted.
- Use of the diving boards and platform or lap swimming during Group Exercise sessions and other organized activities is prohibited

- Eye guards are recommended in order to reduce the chance of eye injuries and are available for check-out at the Equipment Desk.
- Shirts that cover the chest are required as a common courtesy and for safety.
- Clothing, equipment, and other items should be placed in a locker–not on the court, the overlooking ledge, or outside the door. Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- No food or glass containers allowed in racquetball courts.
- Dependents under 18 years of age must be supervised by an adult at all times to utilize the racquetball/ squash/wallyball courts.
- Reservations: Courts for racquetball, squash, or wallyball are available by reservation up to 24 hours prior to play. Courts must be claimed within 5 minutes of the reserved starting time or the reservation will be forfeited. Failure to present a valid ID will result in forfeiture of the reservation (call 855-5222, or stop by Member Services Suite, room 170 to make a reservation).
- Courts may not be reserved after the 5 minute grace period has expired. If 5 minutes has passed and someone is playing on a court, that same court may not be reserved at that moment to displace the current players.
- Individuals must check in at the Member Services Suite to claim their reserved court.
- The official clock is located on the wall near court 7. Turnover in court scheduled times will be followed by the clock’s time or the clock in the Member Services Suite if the official clock malfunctions.
- When time has expired at the end of a reserved time period, please use common courtesy by knocking on the door to signal the time turnover. Do not enter the court until the participants open the door.
- Racquetball Challenge Court Policy – Courts 11&12: • Court 11 will be for singles play, Court 12 will be for doubles play. • The order of the challengers is determined by standing next to the available “X” located on the wall in the observation deck. • Each game will be played to 11 points. • Each player is limited to stay on the court for 3 games maximum, and then they must leave and enter their name on the bottom of the list. • Games where opponents score less than 5 points do not count toward the 3 game limit. • The loser forfeits the court whether the winner stays or not. • If a challenger arrives at mid-game the current game will be finished. • Opponents may require that eye protection be worn on the court.
- Only clean, non-marking athletic shoes are allowed on the courts.
- Racquet sports, wallyball, and table tennis equipment are available for checkout from the Equipment Checkout desk located in the Fieldhouse.
- Courts 1 through 5 are recommended for Squash and Courts 7 through 12 for Racquetball/Handball. Note: Court 1 is the Squash Priority Court.
- Wallyball may be played on Courts 7-10. 16. Dust mops are available to assist in the cleaning of debris from the floor. Please return them to the hooks when finished.
- In the event of an injury or accident seek assistance from an on-site Recreational Sports employee.
RECREATIONAL SPORTS STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY

In the event that blood is involved in an injury, that person cannot continue to participate until the wound is properly cleaned and dressed; any clothing with blood should be removed.
Outdoor Fields and Spaces
- Neither Indiana University nor Campus Recreational Sports or the School of Public Health assumes responsibility for ill health or injury sustained while participating in facilities. No medical or ambulance expense incurred by a participant will be paid by Campus Recreational Sports or by the University. Participation is voluntary. It is recommended that all participants undergo a prior physical examination and carry some form of health and injury insurance.
- If an injury does occur, it should be reported to the nearest Recreational Sports staff personnel. In the event that blood is involved in an injury, that person cannot continue to participate until the wound is properly cleaned and dressed; any clothing with blood should be removed.
- Participants involved in a Code Red accident cannot continue their participation for the remainder of the day.
- Campus Recreational Sports will make decisions pertaining to field and weather conditions and reserves the right to close the facility and/or cancel activities. Violators may be charged for damages when fields have been closed.
- Campus Recreational Sports can postpone or cancel activities at any time if the event is deemed unsafe; or if event coordinators, participants, or spectators are uncooperative.
- The following activities are prohibited for safety reasons: football games, and hitting a softball or baseball. Tossing footballs and practice drills are acceptable.
- Physical changes to the site are not allowed (i.e. moving bleachers or goals, installing items into the ground, etc.).
- Pets, alcoholic beverages, glass containers, motorized vehicles, and any other items that are deemed unsafe, are prohibited. Use of tobacco products is prohibited.
- Park bicycles at designated bike racks and not on the field.
- Children/dependents, under 18, must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card or membership, or Daily/Weekly Pass.
- Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or Recreational Sports participant will result in immediate dismissal from this activity space, with a possible one year suspension of all Recreational Sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the University and legal charges filed.
- Daily equipment checkout is available at the Equipment Desk located in Bill Garrett Fieldhouse.
- Do not wear muddy shoes into the School of Public Health.
- Photography with any type of camera within any Recreational Sports facility is prohibited unless prior arrangements have been made and a waiver signed by a Recreational Sports professional staff member. Please contact a Member Services Associate at 855-5222 for further inquiry.
- Campus Recreational Sports is not responsible for personal belongings lost or stolen at Woodlawn Fields/Track.

- If an injury occurs, it should be reported to the nearest Recreational Sports staff personnel. In the event that blood is involved in an injury, that person cannot continue to participate until the wound is properly cleaned and dressed; any clothing with blood should be removed. Injuries involving any bodily fluids will be promptly cleaned up by our Recreational Sports staff personnel.
- Participants involved in a Code Red accident cannot continue their participation for the remainder of the day.
- Campus Recreational Sports is not responsible for personal belongings lost/stolen at the RSFC.
- Some equipment checkout items are available at the Recreational Sports Member Services Building.
- Children/dependents, under 18, must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card, membership, or Daily/Weekly Pass.

FIELD CONDITIONS
- Campus Recreational Sports will make decisions pertaining to field and weather conditions and reserves the right to close the facility and/or cancel activities.
- Campus Recreational Sports can postpone or cancel activities at any time if the event is deemed unsafe; or if event coordinators, participants, or spectators are uncooperative.
- Physical changes to the site are not allowed (i.e. moving bleachers or goals, installing items into the ground, etc.).
PROTECT THE FIELDS
- Sunflower seeds, gum, food or drinks (except water) are strictly prohibited on synthetic turf fields.
- Pets, alcoholic beverages, glass containers, bicycles, motorized vehicles, and any other items that are deemed unsafe, are also prohibited.
- Park bicycles at designated bike racks and not on the field.
- No metal cleats. Only turf shoes and rubber cleats are permitted.
- Turf fields should be kept free from driving stakes, jewelry, or any sharp objects that will risk damage to the field and injury to players.
- Golf is not permitted.
- Use of tobacco products is prohibited.
FIELD CONDUCT
- Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or Recreational Sports participant will result in immediate dismissal from this activity space, with a possible one year suspension of all Recreational Sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the University and legal charges filed.
