Residence Hall Council

Who We Are

The Recreational Sports Residence Hall Council brings together one RA or CM representative from Residence Halls on Indiana University’s Campus. The purpose of this council is to provide Recreational Sports with the on-campus perspective of the student population and encourage participation in healthy, bond-building activities during a student’s first year at IU.

Council meetings occur every other week and consist of discussing their own and others’ perspectives on programming or events to positively impact programming choices, along with considering different initiatives to engage students in Recreational Sports activities. Additionally, representatives get a taste of different programs themselves - the council has played Wallyball and Team Handball in the past, as well as sampling a Group Exercise Session!

One initiative that the council is helping develop and promote is a competition between the different residence halls in each neighborhood to see who can rally the most engagement in Recreational Sports programs and overall percentage of their halls’ population for using the facilities. This initiative, along with keeping open communication between the Council and their Residence Hall Staff, keeps members engaged in promoting healthy, active lifestyles in a fun way!
